Something I picked up from one of Gearld Fry's training sessions.
Nothing complicated about it. Just takes time and willingness to stick to a long range program.
Select best cows available.
Select Bull to use.
Breed all Cows to same Bull.
From the resulting progeny.
Select good animals to use as breeding stock.
Bulls
Put on a development program, periodically select the best and continue to develop until you have the very best one left when the bulls reach breeding age.
Heifers
Put on a development program, periodically select the ones that look like they will make breeding stock.
Breed these to a half brother selected from above bulls.
Continue repeating above process until the herd is built.
