GRASS IS A FREE ECONOMICAL GIFT

Grass was given in the creation as a free gift to be utilized by our ruminant animals for their health, sustainability, reproduction and growth and therefore mans health, sustainability, reproduction and growth. Involved in that free gift of grass and foraging process hinges their and our existence. Mans existence (in part), health and reproduction and growth hinges on the free gift of grass these animals consume for their health and reproduction. Reality is the only real economic increase in this universe comes from the free gift of resources contained in the earth and from the sun. All other increase is just trade among men and nations.

The ruminant and grass foraging animals are the only species that takes the solar energy (sun) coupled with fertile soil and moisture to create the grass that provides the CLA, Omega 3 acids and Vitamin E that only comes from free range grass consuming animals and birds that are important to mans sustaining healthy existence.

For the past fifty years the American cattle men and women have been encouraged to create cattle genetics that require the animal to receive grain (corn), extra energy for finishing before slaughter. The feeding of grains to any ruminant or foraging animal reduces the healthy CLA, Omega 3 acids and Vitamin E dramatically, to the point that the meat protein without the CLA, Omega 3 and Vitamin E, but with the Omega 6 acids that the feeding of corn creates, therefore the meat is unhealthy causing many major heart, cancer and other related health problems.

Grass is free and the cattle were created to thrive on grass the same as the Buffalo still does today. His body type (phenotype) has not changed. His genetics are still grass based and for those that cannot thrive on grass perish and are never heard of again. The American cattle breeder has kept genetics from the unthrifty cows and bulls that should have been used for table meat and have filled our pastures today. As a result the cow herds and bulls of America are of the genetics that are high maintenance (need corn to finish). The change from reality (grass based Genetics) has created many major problems that must be dealt with every day. Namely breeding problems, calving problems, health problems in cattle and man, stress, the local veterinarian makes his living from the genetic mistakes. All the problems just mentioned plus many more are caused by genetic blunders by unlearned so called seed-stock breeders and ignorant geneticist.

There are only a small group of genetics in America today that are grass based. The North Devon (red rubies) is one of those breeds. The North Devon’s were the first cattle the settlers brought to America because of their docility, willingness to work, their milking ability, tenderness and taste of meat and at the end of their working days history records the meat was still good enough (tender) for human consumption. The North Devon is also a breed that feeding grain does not increase milk production or extra gain over good grass.

The North Devon still carries the same traits and characteristics as they did back in the beginning of American history. The North Devon did not loose their popularity because the animal’s meat and performance was bad. The North Devon lost its popularity because of the excitement of continentals, exotics and the crossbreeding that made the cow size big, tough and unproductive. American history of cattle genetics are about to change back to the reality of cattle eating and finishing on grass. The North Devon’s (Red Rubies) will set the standards in the return to grass based genetics with high grass conversions and utilization of raw products, high quality eating in taste and tenderness and healthy living for man and beast. Their color and pigmented skin makes the breed adaptable for every environment in America.

The British White’s are also a breed that is small in number but equally high in taste, performance, adaptable and docile. The British White & North Devon are both recorded in history behind the 15th century, and that history speaks of the great eating qualities of the meat and milk and those qualities still possess both breeds today.

The Author has found a few bulls here in America that the breeders over the past 50 years were not influenced by EPD’S, continentals, crossbreeding and out-crossing. I traveled to New Zeeland and Australia, found bulls that their progeny gained 4# a day on grass. I imported semen to America from those grass based bull genetics that have never eaten grain. These bulls have the deep and wide chest and with heavy front (masculine). They have the appearance of the buffalo with a lot of rump. The top of the head is lower than the back so these animals are tender and docile. These bull genetics have no grain influence in their background and no American breeding tactics.

As recorded from history past there is always a small remnant that is saved to rebuild the future. So will these and a few other bulls, rebuild and reestablish the cow herds of America back to grass based genetics, which is reality.

The Author can put you in touch with the owners of these great bulls and help you in building a gene pool on your farm that is consistent, predictable, reproductively sound, health free, no calving problems and finishes on grass by the end of the second grazing season. There is no other way to accomplish this accept through the use of a highly prepotent grass based genetic bulls. To breed up from the type of bulls and cows that roam the pastures of America today would take at least 3 generations of calves for a beginning point, or 10 to 12 years with proper selection. The bulls are North Devon, British White, Hereford polled & horned, Angus, Murray Grey, and Jersey.

The Author is doing wok shops (schools) to teach you how to select cows from your own herd and use these great bulls to rebuild your herd back to grass bases, and how to create and raise your own bulls. You will be creating a gene pool in your cow herd that the genetics will be consistent, predictable, healthy, tender, tasty and acceptable. Be out in front of the industry for the future. America is ready for the change. The bulls will do their genetic work. Choosing the correct cows in your herd is crucial.
